Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio Riverwalk

We have 3 rooms and here for 4 days. The staff has been great. Everyone that we’ve encountered has been very nice and helpful to anything we’ve needed. There are a lot of unhoused individuals that stay right out front of the hotel. That isn’t a huge deal but there were a couple sketchy incidents and there were about 15 of them staying on the backside near the riverwalk entrance and as a group of girls, there was no way we could walk through there at night. We decided to take the long way. I think having hire security to make sure the guests are safe would be helpful. 2 of our 3 rooms had the most unpleasant views. Thankfully we weren’t there for the views because if so, we wouldn’t have stayed. The bunk bed rooms they have are great for families!

Why To Stay •Very clean and updated rooms. •Updated and renovated hotel •The riverwalk balcony rooms are great Why Not To Stay •As of 12.13.23 Security is an issue on direct entrance to river walk. Lots of homeless in that area and it’s really bad as it’s the primary reason we booked this place. •Check in is at 4pm check out is at 11am •No direct access to many restaurants •Parking is $50 pulse valet tip but if you park directly across the street where they park your car is is $31 you save about 50% on parking and again it’s literally across the street. •Hotel is generally overpriced for its amenities and locations and lack of security. Breakfast is not good. Staff is not nice but not rude. We didn’t have a problem with anyone. Would I Book Again? You don’t stay at a Hampton for “the experience” but you do not want to compromise your security at the same time. Probably not as there are better locations. This does not mean that it’s a bad choice for you it’s just the lack of security on the direct riverwalk access behind the hotel that STILL has not been addressed.

Upon arrival we did not have hot water and rather than changing our room we were told a mechanic would get to it. We then couldn’t shower before our dinner reservations. In addition they no longer clean the rooms daily which is extremely inconvenient and should be communicated more clearly. When we asked the front desk for housekeeping to be done we were told the best they could do at that point in the day is send up new towels. They sent one floor towel and one bath towel. Clearly if I’m asking for towels I’m out of them and would need more than that. I’m overall disappointed with the experience. The breakfast selections were edible but fairly disappointing. The fruits looked old and brown. Overall value to money was not worth it.

Good cost-benefit. Perfect Location. Liked · 1)Comfortable beds and quiet room. 2) No carpets in the rooms. 3) Hotel with direct access to the River Walk. Perfect location. Disliked · 1) The valet charged me one day more than I used. Contacting the hotel to complain about this charge was difficult. There is no self-parking option. Parking is 4 blocks away from the hotel. We must wait between 15 and 30 minutes for the valets to bring the car. 2) The breakfast is poor. The bananas offered were rotten. No cheese options. Cold and poorly made coffee. 3) No toilet bidet sprayer in the bathroom.

During check-in, the guy at the front desk was rude and condescending. Just immediately. This hotel is not really accessible. Parking is not on-site. You have to do valet, which means loading and unloading on the street, where there's cars around and not always enough room. The accessible rooms have big bumps in the door jam into the room. They can easily tip a wheelchair if you're not careful. They also have deep bathtubs + showers, while other rooms just have walk in showers. I realize bathtubs might be easier for some situations, but it was more difficult for us. ALSO, Riverwalk access is down lots of stairs. There is no ramp or elevator. We asked the front desk about an elevator, and we were told we should have stayed at the hotel next door. Have to say I agree. The rooms were mostly fine, the beds were okay. My room had black mold in the bathroom along the ceiling, but the rest was nice enough.
